Opening night funsicle photo time Plus An ART CONTEST you DON'T want to MISS!

So my creative cycle for this project was completed marked by my first solo show in NYC which was a dream come true! I was so happy to be able to share my work with everyone including a special guest who popped in to see the show Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction ( My teenage self is totally crapping her pants over this ;) LOL ). :D Talk about full circle! I listened to Jane's Addiction so much throughout the years especially good memories from High school daze! Hello first Lollapalooza! So for Dave to come by and say he dug my work well I felt perfect and honored sharing my work with him since he has shared his awesome music with me all these years!
Here I am with my work on a super hot opening night but we were all super cool in the gallery ;)

Angie Mason's "Project 30, The Hand Picked 10"

Angie Mason
"Project 30 - The Hand Picked 10"
Opening Date: July 7th, 2012
Opening Times: 7-10pm
Exhibition running dates: July 7th- August 3rd.
Show Curated By Frankie Velez
Artist ANGIE MASON presents: PROJECT 30 THE HAND PICKED 10, this July 7th you are invited to come see a new body of work including 30 drawings and 10 paintings. This will also mark the artists first ever New York City solo exhibition. This idea started as a social media art experiment, a way for the artist to interact with fans who follow her work. Fans were asked to "hand pick" their top ten artworks from the 30 original drawings which Angie created for Project 30. Encouraging fans to "Be a part of the process!" by liking and commenting on their favorites. Project 30 - The Hand Picked 10 was utilizing social media platforms as way to interact in ways never used before during Angie's creative process. It was a fun interactive project that now is coming to the moment of truth the solo exhibition showcasing all 30 drawings and the Hand Picked 10 paintings! Come out July 7th for the opening reception and be part of the Finishing Process.
Angie Mason was born in Northern New Jersey but was uprooted quite often during her younger years. This chaotic, disjointed upbringing helped inform her visual imagination and sensibilities. Currently Angie took root in Northern New Jersey where she resides and works. She is a 1997 graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York City. Her extensive body of work has centered on a visual examination of modern life in a unique and sometimes frightening look through a ‘grotesque folk-pop lens’ of character narratives. Angie has had solo and group exhibitions in both museum and galleries throughout the United States and internationally.

Angie visually explores the darkness and light we face in life through the creation of character narrative works. Primarily Angie presents the work as paintings and drawings but also works with a wide range of mediums to create alternate visions such as dolls, sculptures, custom jewelry and wearable art. "As a visual person having a wide scope of all visual angles allows for me to constantly examine ideas in new ways that allow for greater discovery and growth within myself and the work." Focusing on twisted combinations and dual opposites (such as sweet vs. sour, happy vs. sad or life vs. death) she paints truths about being human. Varied influences are found within her work ranging from such things as nature, love, relationships, dreams, memories, humor, loss and health to name a few. These mixed influences cause a balance of light and dark that intermingle with each other creating a visual playground, bringing to life quirky characters that are beautifully rendered yet with a painterly hand giving them an innocent raw touch. Mason’s works are both horrific and humorous, yet speaks of what it means to be human.

Mason’s undeniable originality has garnered her attention from publishers and collectors alike, such as actress and poet Amber Tamblyn and the multifaceted Aprella among them. Her list of expanding accolades range from the 'EdgyCute' art survey book by Harry Saylor and the collaboration 'Feedback Project' where Adrian Stout of The Tiger Lillies, composed original music based on Mason’s artwork. Mason was also part of the 23 renowned artists chosen to be a part of the critically acclaimed Lowbrow Tarot Project exhibition ( 2010) and book (2012). For more information and in depth look at her artwork please visit: www.angiemason.com

NYC Solo Show countdown! 27 days till July 7th!

YOU ARE ALL INVITED! RSVP HERE

I am in my studio as I type this finishing up my paintings and getting things ready for this show! I am so happy and excited to see this idea I had floating around in my brain come to fruition, it's truly always one of the best parts of the process doing a show in my opinion! From my little scratched notes to now 30 finished drawings and 10 paintings that are all close to being complete just really make me smile that if you think of something and dedicate yourself to that idea it will come to fruition you just have to believe in that idea and own it...working on it and growing it a little everyday. It applies to so much in life. I am proud and thankful for all the support I have had for this project and I truly hope to see you at the opening and share in the final fruition of this once free floating idea in my minds eye now totally real life and waiting to meet you!

Here is a sneak peak in my studio at one the paintings in progress.

And here are all the drawings getting framed up and fancy for show at Sacred Gallery!

Look at all those drawings!  30 to be exact!

Earlier in the year I asked you the fans who follow my work to hand pick your top 10 favorites and here are the Hand Picked 10 you all chose!
